Writing your own entries
Anyone can add homebrew to the Compendium: a species, a subclass and its features, a feat, an item, a spell, a monster, a rule.
Create an entry
Section titled “Create an entry”- Open the Compendium and choose New entry.
- Pick the ruleset it belongs to (2024 or 2014) and its type.
- Give it a name, an optional one-line summary, and its text. The text supports Markdown:
**bold**,*italic*, lists with-, and tables with|. - Fill in Belongs to if the type has it (see below), then Create entry.
Only you can edit your entries. Use Edit on the entry’s page to change them later.
Belongs to
Section titled “Belongs to”Some entries are part of something else, and World Vault needs to know what so the builder can offer them:
| Type | Belongs to | Also set |
|---|---|---|
| Subclass | the class that offers it | |
| Class feature | the class or subclass that grants it | the level it arrives at |
| Trait | the species (or subspecies) it comes with | |
| Subspecies | the species | |
| Species | size and speed |
Search for the parent in the Belongs to box and pick it. Once linked, your homebrew species appears in the builder’s species list, your subclass appears when someone picks a subclass, and its features arrive at the right levels.
Make it do something on the sheet
Section titled “Make it do something on the sheet”Text alone is only read. To have an entry change numbers on a character sheet (a bonus to AC, resistance to fire, a resource with uses, an attack), give it mechanics with the effect builder: choose Mechanics on the entry’s page.
Copying an entry
Section titled “Copying an entry”Copy on any entry makes a homebrew copy you can change. A copy starts on its own: it isn’t added to the original’s class or species until you set its Belongs to.
Monster pictures
Section titled “Monster pictures”For your homebrew monsters you can add a token picture, which the Table Display uses for its tokens.
Using homebrew in a campaign
Section titled “Using homebrew in a campaign”Homebrew starts off in campaigns. A campaign’s DM switches it on with Used In on the entry. Characters that already use it switch it on automatically when they’re brought into a campaign.
